Dunk For Haiti

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Shaquille O’Neal has brought to the table one of the most glorifying ideas in quite some time. The possibility of Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, and Vince Carter competeing in the NBA Dunk Contest   The only thing I disagree with is that the entire prize should go to Haiti.  Why just Half?

As great of an idea as this may seem this is not only for Haiti, but also for the game of basketball;  The NBA is missing the competiveness of when Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird played the game. Doing something like this when called upon would bring extreme greatness to the court. We all know from Michael Jordan’s hall of fame introduction that if a challenge is laid down he will accept. Why won’t these players step up to the table and do something great for the sport that puts a lot of money in their pockets. I hope the reason that these players are not contributing to this isn’t because they feel they have lost their dunking creativity.

The Dunk Completion has always been based on the creativity of the player. These players should remember when they saw Michael Jordan dunk from the free throw line and how that left an impression on the game of basketball. Are you not ready to make your lasting impression?
